rib roast and champagne
this holiday weekend cj and i are touring our houses meeting each other's fam. it's funny to compare our parents' reactions to our relationship. we stopped at my house first. everything is very civil and polite. we had a nice conversation w/ mom and dad when we got home and during thanksgiving dinner. after the guests left, i had a long talk with mom and dad about the status of our relationship (the first time we've really talked about it). there were many wary questions. what are his future plans? what's his financial situation? etc.. all the important things that asian parents think of. i think i managed to ease my parents' worries a bit, but it took a good hour.
meanwhile, cj's parents have been wary of being too excited to meet me. he sent them an email letting them know it's ok -
>Feel free to fall in love.
>
>See you early tomorrow.
>
>Love,
>CJ
his mom (who had eloped w/ cj's dad) in response:
>YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>
>Would you prefer an elegant rib roast tomorrow instead of a peasant stew?
>Champagne in order?
>
>God, your dad'll go nuts w/me 'til we see you!
>
>Love,
>Jumping and jiggling
>Mommy

WOW! that's awesome! i imagine his mom picking you up and doing that shaky thing that erin does with you. jello jigglers.
i wonder how cj's parents would act if they were to meet their daughter's (had they had one) bf? probably not much differently?
*sigh* not looking forward to the flight home.
Awesome story. :) Typical Asian parents vs. typical non-asian parents.
CJ's parents sound like big kids (in a good way).
Hooray! Hope you had fun meeting them.
