black and gold
steelers won this weekend!
thank god. i was afraid that cj and i were jinxing them every time we watched, but it turned out ok this time. one of the reasons i like the steelers is that they sport the steel curtain. nothing like a strong defense. AND they have no cheerleaders. (not to mention hines ward is awesome!)
i've been watching more college football this year, and i've decided it's just not fun to watch. sure their superstars make all kinds of crazy entertaining plays, but it's all because no one is challenging them on defense. here, i'll let you catch the ball, run 15 yards, and then maybe i'll try to tackle you. why is this?
several people came up with several answers. all the super star players in high school that went on to play defense in college football mostly played offense in high school, so people aren't as experienced defensively in college. don't know how true this is, but i'll buy it. defense is also more team oriented, so weak links (as in freshmen who don't know the game as well) can severely damage the defense. and maybe they're also just not as big and fast as pros. perhaps it's just this year, where teams are hurting a little on defense for whatever reason. in any case, something drastic happens somewhere between college and pro. like magic!
