peru - my host family

so its been almost 3 weeks in peru. and i havent written anything about... entonces, i have a lot to write. ill break it up and write about certain subjects

i actually had a pretty rough time leaving people behind the first couple of days. but i got put in with an awesome family who is welcoming, and so things got better. my family consists of all women. three generations of women and no men. i havent been surrounded by so much estrogen in a while...since smite! but yea, the matriarch of the family - the host mom (evelia) - runs the show. she has a daughter (cinthia), who is my age (and just had a bday yesterday). and the daughter has a daughter (evelita) who is 4yo. then there is the matriarch's sister who also lives in the house and another woman who is like a daughter to the matriarch. they've been having students live in their house for 5 years, so theyre very good at speaking slowly and explainign things.

evelia was a teacher, but is retired now and i think lives on the money from students living in the house. shes a good business person and a athlete. she plays squash every morning..i played with her a couple times, and she is good - if only she could move around better (shes getting up there in age), she would dominate everyone.

cinthia just turned 25 yesterday. shes a loveable and silly person. loves to crack jokes and dance. she tried to teach me the latin style of dancing but apparently you have to move your hips. a lot. and independently of everything else. i guess i can move my hips...but the rest of my body tends to move with it. sigh. i like her.

evelita, the 4yo, is so cute! she has big brown eyes and a big smile. unfortunately, i think she hates me. =P never have been good with the kids.

dont really interact with the aunt. and i would talk to her more if i could understand anything that comes out of her mouth. she has this way of mumbling and speaking rapidly that just makes communicating impossible.

pancha, the other woman, is awesome. she does most of the cooking and cleaning in the house. and she loves laughing at me. but all in good fun.

another student just arrived this past sunday. hes from quebec and so we're forced to speak spanish. which is awesome! hes quirky and defn likes his marijuana.

and thats the family. more to come later!
