hoppel tongs
to mark the 1 year anniversary of cj and me meeting each others' parents, we decided to have our parents meet each other! at this rate, we're going to run out of relationship milestones soon.
so the tongs (even etong!) went to thanksgiving at the hoppels! and we had a nice traditional thanksgiving. turkey and ham and cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes and all that good stuff. conversation was also decent...i think. i avoided a lot of it by volunteering to be on clean up duty in the kitchen. but there were also other guests at the t day party to fill my void - a family friend of the hoppels who is a psychiatrist who used to be a vet (we'll call her doc of all species) and her daughter, and cj's grandmother. the diversity of backgrounds and personality made it a fun combo.
cj's parents are liberal and enjoy debating about all things political, economical, classical musical, and so much more. my parents are reserved and less liberal. doc of all species is outspoken, fun, and opinionated. her daughter's a freshman in college and is searching for direction in her life. my sister is a little more found in life, but not by much. and cj's healthy and lively grandmother who doesn't understand sarcasm is on the right end of traditional and conservative.
unfortunately, sarcasm was everyone's first choice of humor, and grandma unknowingly suffered a couple innocuous jabs and was confused most of the time. there was a lot of shooting the shit, and there were some debates. there were also some stories about the crazies that doc of all species told, and man, they defn earned their title, but to be fair, all systems are against them. i decided for sure that pscyhiatry was not for me.
so at the end of the evening, everyone left content. and cj and i sighed relief filled sighs. they like each other!

yay! atong is back! sooo...1 step closer to the wedding?
yea! you're back too!
1 step closer to the wedding. i wish it could just happen. without planning involved. maybe i'm just lazy. trying to figure out how to celebrate with friends also.
having the parents meet each other sounds way more stressful than you meeting the other's parents!
and re: wedding - you could elope to vegas! and then throw a party. but then you may or may not get homey gifts.
vegas! apparently nyc is becoming the new vegas. they've built a nice courthouse/wedding place where couples can get married by a judge. in and out!
