roadtrip

winter break was fun!

we went to:
cleveland
greensboro
princeton, wv (and flattop mtn)
pittsburgh
wayland, ny (near rochester)

cj and i went on a roadtrip not really having too many things planned. after getting back from LA for christmas, i drove to cleveland to pick him up and to visit his parents. his polish mother promised me polish duck blood soup (czarnina). so we had czarnina for lunch w/ freshly made pasta. the soup was interesting. it was very tangy from the blood being kept in vinegar. i like that it was meaty with duck and pork. not too bad. dinner was nice too. cj made a roast. and there were also cornish game hens along w/ lots of side dishes. needless to say there was lots of leftovers. we had made plans to visit cj's friend from nc, so we left the next morning, but not w/o eating tons of pierogies! mmmm...polish food is delicious. cj's parents packed our car full of food. (haha...i almost spelled full as fool b/c they sound the same). and then we were off.

we got to greensboro, nc in time for dinner. cj's friend, who is an awesome photographer, took us to a vegetarian asian fusion place with "meat" in "quotes". they make soy products that taste and feel like the "meat" that they are supposed to be. pretty good. and then we bought some liquor and went back to his friend's place to drink and play cards. his friend has an awesome collection of transformers. i eventually ended up just playing with his toys trying to transform them from man to machine. i'd love to be a toy engineer. i did this while cj and his friend took shots of vodka while flossing between each shot...... i think they both enjoy flossing a lot.

the next day we didn't wake up until 1pm and then watched my so called life until 4pm when we had to go to a holiday party. =P we were a waste of life. but we got to sleep early so we could wake up and go hiking the next day. we went on a hike on a nearby mtn - stone mountain. i think the trail was pretty short. but we spent 6 hours walking around because our initial assumption of where we parked was not correct. we went in a couple circles. the view was nice though. pictures to come later. there was some sport climbing there. so maybe next time i'll bring some rope and shoes. fun! and then we missed new years. b/c we were taking a nap at like 8pm and didn't wake up in time. (we woke up at noon the next day). sigh. i feel like we're getting kinda old. we were supposed to go to this artist collective where artists celebrate in their weird ways. but no, we just slept.

new years day was spent seeing greensboro finally during the day time and eating at a real southern diner. mmmm... humongous biscuits with gravy! and fried chicken! i think i got 2 heart attacks afterwards.

later that day we drove to wv and stopped in princeton b/c it was snowing pretty hard. we were thinking of going snowboarding in pennsylvania, but it turns out there was a ski resort 15min from where we stopped. hooray! so we booked the hotel room for a couple of nights. it was effin cold. my nose fell off. but it's ok, cause it was cryogenically preserved. i had cj help me sew it on in the hotel room with the free sewing kit. =P west virginia is beautiful. if only i hadn't had preconceptions of it being very hickish. all we did as kids in pittsburgh was make fun of west virginia... shows how cool we were.

we stopped in pittsburgh for lunch a couple days later on our way up to rochester! my parents treated us to cheesecake factory. yum. and then i said farewell. it was sad i didn't get to see them more during break. usually spend it all w/ them. we did stop at home to poo. cause it's always nice to poo at home.

we had to get to wayland where cj's roommate has a house/farm in the middle of nowhere. it was awesome. cj's roommate and gf was there with a couple of other people to help us celebrate the end of break. we had a wood stove. a pond in the backyard. lots of snow on the ground. we made snow men, huge fires (there was a lawn chair involved), good food, read a bunch, walked across a frozen pond for the first time!, walked through frozen potato fields, made snow angels, played parcheesi (i got second after thinking i was gonna be last), played wizards (a card game i also came 2nd in. i'm good at being the first loser), and we did all the rest of the wonderful things people do in the middle of no where. relaxing.

near the end of our time at wayland, we decided to open some of the things that cj's parents packed for us for food. we found: 3 cornish hens, some chunks of ham, a couple chunks of cheese, a bunch of bananas, a pomegranate, all which had been just sitting in the car warming up and freezing for 1.5 wks.... yum!

but then break was over. we drove back to westchester. and then school started. it was a very eventful break. i wonder if anyone is still reading.....

I read it all:). Your break sounded more exciting than mine. Although I did get to see cathychu and lori and that has to count for a lot.

yeah! i read it all too! why did you drive all the way from cleveland to greensboro?! seems a far way to go...

there's a snow mtn in ga too. it also has confusing parking lots. flossing? seems like a dangerous activity between shots...did they cut their gums? also doesn't seem you can floss enough to not get drunk too fast.

yea, i didn't get to see cathy chu or lori. =(

we went to visit cj's friend in greensboro. we were originally supposed to go hiking in the smokies, but flossing and vodka happened instead.... apparently it gets you drunker faster b/c you cut your gums and the alcohol seeps right into your blood =P

it wasn't too bad of a drive...maybe 7 hrs or so. after counting i think we spent total of 26 hours driving. hooray for driving! the drive through west virginia was the best. lots of mountains and rivers
