math rocks.

last thurday was the last tutoring session with our little kiddies. my girl's in 5th grade. she's feisty and she's talkative. i actually think we're a good match. normally she does her homework the whole time, but this time, she only had two questions to answer, and finished in 10 minutes. and oh man, were the next 40 minutes tough. i suggested something fun like doing extra math problems even in game form! (who doesn't like to play 24??). but she insisted it wasn't.... (i can't see why...) and then started threatening to call the cops on me for forcing her to do something she didn't want to do. after logically explaining math is important in life, she just got up and ran away. sigh. didn't know tutoring was so energy draining. i sprinted down the hall after her. good thing i have longer strides than her. after bringing her back to our work area, she took off again. three times! i wish i had duct tape or something to secure her to her chair. she almost convinced another one of her own kind to run away with her. finally after much wheedling and insisting, and with the promise of teaching her super hard math she finally settled down and figured out the algebra problem i gave her. and then right after she figured it out, promptly asked for another one.
