monument run
one of our professors took us on a 10k run (my first!) around DC to
see all the monuments. it was duskish, the weather was great. i even
made the effort to bring my camera. but alas, stupid leaking
electrons discharged my battery and i had no juice left to take
awesome pictures. we hit all the important sites including the white
house, fdr, lincoln, washington, jefferson, vietnam, treasury, the
place where money is printed, einstein, perhaps more... it was
perfect. there was a huge group of us running - about 27 - and we all
bonded while sweating it out. as we ran past the white house, i saw
that the homeless woman in front of the white house filmed on
fahrenheit 9/11 is still there. after we were done, i headed out to
find some food other than subway/taco bell/kfc. people thought they
were too sweaty and smelly to eat out...somehow that didn't even occur
to me. ah well. i ended up at kramer's bookstore which had a
cafe/grille attached to it. laura, is this the same chain we went for
bread pudding at yale? anyway, food ended up being a nice blandish
seared tuna sandwich with lots of avocado (i thought of lily). mmm.
their dessert menu looked pretty good, but tuna filled me up.
apparently they have good brunch too. i think i like the occasional
meal alone. just me and my thoughts.
i've also signed up to tutor a kid for the year. the coordinating
woman made them seem like kids with huge behavioral problems. i'm a
little worried. i'll have to learn to be strong and kick their asses
if they give me any crap. just practicing getting comfortable being
uncomfortable..

The run sounds like it was really cool! What a great idea.
You'll be a great tutor; compassion goes a long way.
hey atong! blog about the weekend please. what, you think you were there to relax?! wrong, reporter! you were there to be my eyes and ears. what would peter parker have done? what would clark kent have done? (ok, so they both would've just taken pictures, but there seems to be a dearth of super hero reporters).
