=)
my weekend was enjoyable. some tennis, some climbing, some sleeping, some studying. i think it was a good break. gotta get back into hardcore studying again. hmm...but there's an outdoors club trip to a overnight climbing trip this weekend that i'm hoping to attend at annapolis rock in maryland. i will only go if i learn the cardiovascular system by then. i'm trying to vary my study habits to see what works better. i've been studying in a group setting in addition to just drilling by myself, but i think it might be a little too unfocused for me. can't really internalize the material while in the group.
my lab from last year is in san diego at an orthopedic conference. i can imagine them having a blast in the warm weather at the beach eating well, drinking well, and perhaps even learning a new thing or two. that is one thing i miss about being part of that lab. for the most part, i am thankful that i am in school again.
i had some pretty good traditional food eating experiences this past weekend. all asian! saturday night, my roommate and i went to a traditional korean restaurant that pretty much only served varieties of a tofu soup made with oyster/seafood broth. it was very tasty. i'm glad my roommate was korean, cause i think they only knew a handfull of english words. they supplemented our meal with barley tea in a used rice bowl w/ rice still in it and lots of spicy pickled side dishes. authentic vietnamese food was next on the list. i believe this is the first time i've had a non pho or vermicelli dish from a vietnamese place. they have pretty good food with lots of herbs. everything is but flavorful, but not too heavy. i had carmelized pork and shrimp in a claypot very reminiscent of the taiwanese san bei ji. still so many things to try. one complaint is that they don't use enough veggies!
i went to a chinese place tonight which was open late. everytime i glanced up and saw one of the random cantonese ppl in the restaurant, they would be looking at me. it was a bit disconcerting, especially since i couldn't understand what they were saying. speak mandarin damnit. on the other hand, i found another climbing buddy!
