drive

i've come to realize more and more that other people motivate me more than i motivate myself. it is slightly disappointing that i need others and am not completely independent, but i suppose now that i know and am not in denial, i can use that to push myself even more.

in the past, i thought smart people didn't need to study, so i wouldn't study hard because i wanted to prove that i was smart. that worked well.. i am glad i came around on that point as well. baby steps.

I don't think it's bad at all to realize that other people motivate you... just look at ultimate! We work our asses off for our teammates. If we didn't want to make them proud, if we didn't want to give everything to them, then we wouldn't work nearly as hard as we do.

I don't think it'd be nearly as satisfying if we could do that all by ourselves... then who would we share it with?

i have also come to realize that i need other people to motivate me. i don't think it's entirely a bad thing - it just means that instead of bucking down and doing everything by myself, i have to spend some time making sure i build the social networks that i need to be sucessful. (i feel like we might have talked about this before...)

in the past, i thought that studying was something that you did only if you cared a lot. so if i didn't care about something, i wouldn't study, and then if i did crappy, i would justify it by saying, "haha! look at all those suckers who think this worthless information is worth learning!"

in retrospect, i'm not sure that's a great way to deal with challenges either. baby steps indeed :)

i suppose being dependent on others is not so bad. just have to plan around it (i think we did talk about this laura). the bigger realization is what i can and can't change. can't change motivation factor, but i can change the environment i work in. it takes me a while to veer from my original path. i get stubborn sometimes.

and yay ultimate. it's true. i wouldn't have worked as hard if there weren't teammates there. and having teammates there was one of the best things about ultimate.
